O Kadhal Kanmani – Parandhu sella vaa   Leave a comment

Everytime Mani Ranthnam directs a movie, I feel that he dedicates it to his wife ‘Suhasini’, even when he ponders over the idea of making a movie he must be like, ‘I think I’d like to dedicate this movie to my lovely wife’, that is because his movies reflect terrific sincere romance, the ones which glorify unblemished love. O Kadhal kanmani (OKK) is his latest directorial venture and I am glad that I chose this one as a starter and thanks to subtitles, the movie watching experience was one of the most memorable.

For me, the only thing which mattered was Nithya Menon’s – Tara, she was terrific! If I were to interview Mr.Rathnam I would definitely ask this: what are the basic parameters that you’d visualize to be present in your strongest character, how do you conjure those? What are your references ? Is your Wife an inspiration to it?

okkkTara is the reason behind OKK’s commercial success, she is as graceful as she can get, the chief reasons being, the effervescent ‘Parandhu Sella Vaa’ or when she talks to Aadi after lovemaking, or when she comforts Ganapathi, Bhavani with her eloquent singing (Malargal ketten) or when she takes a ‘first- squabble-selfie’ or when she introduces herself to Aadi. She’s as sweet as a cheery pie and it is these seemingly insignificant moments that shine the most.

I wouldn’t blabber much about the movie and its mechanics, but would certainly shed light on Rantham’s feminist oeuvre and its evolution over time, films like Mounaraagam, Geethanjali, Roja, Bombay Alaipayuthey, and Yuva stands testimonial to that and now with OKK the stance is ever evolving.
