Oh my gwadzilla watta music Chombeshwara!   2 comments

ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ is a much awaited kannada movie directed by Yograj Bhat, starring Puneet Rajkumar, Deepa Sanniddi, Aindrita Ray, Ramya Barna, Ananth Nag and Rangayana Raghu. The movie has generated, lot of news esp in advertising, telecast, audio rights. Brimming with confidence, authority, Mr.Bhatt is now kannada film industry’s top director. In a recent interview he said, “I want to show audiences something they’ve never seen in Kannada before. I’m confident I’ll satisfy my fans as well as Puneet’s.”  For Paramathma he is the director, producer, lyricist, dialogue writer and along with suri a screenwriter.

Yograj Bhatt-Jayanth Kaykini-Harikrishna combo is back with a bang, Paramathma album consists of 6 tracks, 2 of which is written by Kaykini and the rest by Mr.Bhatt. It is in analogous to AR Rahman’s music and he himself has applauded Harikrishna’s efforts, you gotta listen to it multiple times to get the experience of it, understand it because bhatt’s lyrics carry dual and deeper meanings than they appear to be on the surface.

A brief review…

“ಯಾವನಿಗ್ ಗೊತ್ತು?”of Tippu, Lyrics: Yogaraj Bhat
Tippu shines again in this semi-tapori- philosophical number that has startling lyrics, just the right thing to start with, really liked the cheesy lines..

“ಪರವಶನಾದೆನೂ” of Sonu Nigam, Lyrics: Jayanth Kaykini
Just wow! Kaykini’s poetry and Nigam’s voice takes us inside their extraordinary world of music, it has a brief-epigrammatic guitar tune of ‘Hotel California’, nevertheless this number is absolute work of genius. Just take a look at the lyrics.

“ಕತ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕರಡೀಗೆ” of Yogaraj Bhat, Lyrics: Yogaraj Bhat
Bhatt’s view on women, love, life are expressed in this bizarre-yet-ingenuous number. I really took a long time to comprehend this weird track.. what is the meaning when he says ಕತ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕರಡೀಗೆ ಜಾಮೂನು ತಿನ್ಸೋಕೆ ಯಾವತ್ತು ಹೋಗ್ಬಾರ್ದು…perhaps this is in view with rowling’s ‘never tickle a sleeping dragon’ theory or perhaps will understand the real meaning of it only after watching the movie. Again, really appreciated bhatt’s lyrical work, also the rustic flavor of the track.

a few gems of bhattism’s…

“ಹೆಸರು ಪೂರ್ತಿ” of Vani Harikrishna, Lyrics: Yogaraj Bhat
I am really amazed at Mr. Bhatt’s lyrical expertise, after such tapori numbers he comes back with this poignantly graceful track filled with evocative sensations. Vani Harikrishna pours her soul into this number which is hauntingly brilliant.

“ತನ್ಮಯಳಾದೇನು” of Shreya Goshal, Lyrics: Jayanth Kaikini
I get goose bumps every time shreya says , ತನ್ಮಯಳಾದೇನು  and i enter the state of being ತನ್ಮಾಯನಾದೆನು. This track is the female version of ‘ಪರವಶನಾದೆನೂ’.However it has different lyrics which is again just amazing. No one could have had sung this song better than Shreya, , with delicate hallmark shreya variations, she is just enchantingly beautiful! I really liked this version than nigam’s.

“ಒಬ್ಬ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ” of V. Harikrishna, Lyrics: Yogaraj Bhat
Tamtate, Electonica, Harmonium, Electoni-guitar, Drums, Shehanai, Shanka(conch), Raw brass trumpet, it has got everything that you can imagine of.  Harikrishna has himself provided vocals to this number which highlights the activities of tapori dud’s college life.

Paramathma, is a very rare kannada movie album which has great music and as well it contains lyrics that are unmatched. Very authentic and has definite values it emphasizes on, and it is experimental. I have to agree to the statement of Mr.Bhatt ‘I want to show audiences something they’ve never seen in Kannada before.’  At least, this is so very true in regard with the Paramathma’s music.

Bhatt-Kaykini-Harikrishna, take a bow!

My Picks: ALL :)
