ZNMD: One of the best chick flicks of all time.   Leave a comment

Chick Flick: A genre of movies that has been formed all on its own combining the genres of Romance, Drama, and Comedy. These movies are filled with cliche after cliche, yet so irresistible for the female population to go out and see the next version. Each contains the same plot with the Character names changed. – Urban dictionary.

Well zoya’s procedures are a little less clichéd when compared to other chick flicks and also the plot is somewhat twisted, dissimilar and hence ZNMD is perhaps one of the best chick flicks of all time. It’s nothing more than a somewhat better-than-average, heart-warming, bitter-sweet, coochy-coochy, mushy-mushy, lovey-dovey, softy-softy, feel-good movie.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is all about ‘Oo aa, take the world and paint it red’, why only paint the world with red?!? Oh yeah… That’s because three ruddy blokes are to travel Spain to throw tamaters at each other, aptly put by miss diving instructor Laila (Katrina Kaif) “It’s like Holi, par wahan tomatoes ke saath khelte hain.” :P

Kabir (Abhay Deol) is getting married to Natasha (Kalki Koechlin), therefore to celebrate his last few days of bachelorhood; he wants to go to a holiday with his chaddi-buddies,  Da Mantal Iscool Bwoy – Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) and Imraan (Farhan Akhtar). So they are off to Spain, a road trip where each one has planned his own version of holiday and other two have to simply abide by the rules. Kabir’s pick – Deep Sea diving, where they meet Laila (Katrina Kaif) who successfully subjugates Da Mantal Bwoy’s fear of water, he later falls in love with her only after a remarkable smooch.

Arjun’s pick – Skydiving, in this case Imraan breaks his fear of heights also deals with his biological father – Salman (Naseeruddin shah). I seriously was wondering whether all these individual caustic fears were something to do elements, Arjun – water,  Imraan – Air, Kabir- Fire??? Well my guess was incorrect. :( Imran’s pick was – to participate in the event called “Running of the Bulls”, this concluding activity finally stirs up their souls and they all vow to make some important life altering decisions. Kabir : break up with Natasha, Arjun : get hitched to Laila, Imran – get his poems published.

The movie’s concept is interesting but the execution not so good. The framework and the scenarios are so neat, orderly, spick and span and well-groomed. Designer clothes, designer watches,  glasses, jewelry, hotels, everything is branded! Its just outlandish, very unreal and I sincerely loathe such movies which struggles too hard to be cool. I do agree to the fact that movie does have some genuine moments however it gets bleached when you look at the movie in one piece.

Hwa ke jhokon ke jaise aazad rehno sekho
Tum ek dariya ke jaise lehron mein behna sekho
Hr ek lamhe se tum milo khole apni baahein
Hr ek pal ek nya sama dekhe nigahein

It’s a disappointment that the above message is promoted in a typical chick-ish fashion.
