2011 Oscar Predictions   1 comment

The 2011 Academy Award nominations were announced on Jan 25 and the ceremony will take place on Sunday, Feb 27 at the Kodak Theatre.

Here’s my Predictions :)

127 Hours of Danny Boyle is the true story of Aron Ralston, a trapped mountain climber and his ordeal in the Utah wilderness. As always Boyle’s direction is really awesome and great performance from James Franco.

Black Swan of Darren Aronofsky, another cynical movie from Aronofsky. The movie is just pale, blue and melancholic. Natalie Portman gives the performance of a lifetime and without any doubt she will win Oscar for best Actress.

The Fighter of David O Russell is based on a true story of professional boxer ‘Micky Ward’ and his elder brother ‘Dicky Eklund’, incredible performances form Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Melissa Leo. Prediction: Bale and Melissa leo will win Oscars for Best Supporting Actor and Actress respectively.

Inception of Christopher Nolan, “What’s the most resilient Parasite: An Idea!” truly mesmerizing film. It has received 8 oscar nominations and maybe it’ll win 1 or 2 or perhaps none.

The Kids Are All Right of Lisa Cholodenko, is an American drama, where two children conceived by artificial insemination bring their birth father into their family life. It is most likely to win Oscar for Best original Screenplay.

The King’s Speech of Tom Hooper, The story of how King George 5 overcame his stammer with the help of a speech therapist. Nothing genuine about the movie and it is fundamentally British. However,Colin Firth may get Best Actor Oscar for his incredible performance.

The Social Network of David Fincher, I thought this movie would be a big flop! According to Rotten Tomatoes The Social Network is “Impeccably scripted, beautifully directed, and filled with fine performances, It is a riveting, ambitious example of modern filmmaking at its finest…” Truthfully it is. The film is nominated for 8 Oscars. It might walk away with the maximum awards and most likely to win in categories like Best achievement in cinematography, Best achievement in editing, Best achievement in music written for motion pictures, Best achievement in directing, Best writing, Screenplay Based on material previously produced or published.

Toy Story 3 of Lee Unkrich, what a movie! It is one of the best trilogies of all time and it goes above and infinitely beyond and is so far one of the most creative animated movie ever. I really want Toy story 3 to win Best Picture award for 2010-11.

True Grit of Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, another classic from Coen brothers in which US Marshal helps a young woman to track down her father’s murderer. Great performances from Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin.

Winter’s Bone of Debra Granik it is an adaptation of Daniel Woodrell’s novel of the same name. An unflinching Ozark Mountain girl hacks through dangerous social terrain as she hunts down her drug-dealing father while trying to keep her family intact.

Summary of Predictions:

Best Motion Picture of the Year: Toy Story 3.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role: Colin Firth (The King’s Speech)

  1. As much as I would kill for Nolan to win for screenplay, the fact remains the Academy has an unreasonable hard on for The King’s Speech so original screenplay will probably go to that movie rather Inception, despite it should win. Check out my list and opinions when you can!
